MacFreePops Tutorial in English
Please refer to the screenshots of the Italian tutorial, thanks.
MacFreePops is a very powerful application, which allows you to download and synchronize your multiple mail accounts with Mail.app in OSX, without access by an Internet browser.
Follow this tutorial step by step.
Download MFP from the developer site, M. P. Covarelli : http://www.e-link.it/macfreepops/
It is a freeware application; perhaps - by a minimum donation - you may wish to obtain a code to exclude a pop-up message asking to sustain the development.
In any case, if you decide not to donate, MFP will run without any problem at all.
Open the file DMG and insert MFP in your Application folder.
Launch the program and by the Menu View choose "Show/Hide Window", in order to set preferences.
STEP ONE
(IMAGE ONE - MFP PANEL)
Check cases as per screenshot.
To proceed to software and LUA updates, MFP will notice you in the upper part of the panel by an advice button.
Just arrest MFP and click on the button that will appear only in this special case.
(IMAGE TWO - CONFIGURATION OF THE SERVER)
The second panel allows configuring the server in the right way.
First of all, you need to stop MFP by the button in the upper part of the panel, the blue one showed in the screenshot. Now cases are sensitive and you can proceed,
Check first case of the panel and insert port 2000. Check then the second one and insert the server address, 127.0.0.1, just as indicated by the screenshot.
Other cases can be left unchecked.
Third panel contains the list of installed plug-ins, i.d. LUA files which may cause dysfunctions of the software if not updated when updates come available.
If you click on the lower right button "show plug-ins folder", you will notice on the right a window with the path of plug-ins Folder on you Mac; you can eventually manually modify and insert new brand files in this folder.
STEP TWO
Now you have to configure Mail.app., in order it runs in synchrony with MFP.
You need at least one mail account of your Internet provider, this account must already be installed, and running with Mail.app., as generally the case is.
Proceed indeed to the creation of a new further account, and do it again in the same way for each mail account you may want to add in Mail.app.
(IMAGE ONE of STEP TWO)
This time we want to insert a Hotmail account on our Mail.app
Open menu Preferences/Account, check on button + and be guided trough by Mail.app, just choose type account, which shall be POP.
(IMAGE TWO of STEP TWO)
On the following panel, you shall insert the incoming server address, 127.0.0.1 and shall indicate your account details, including password.
You will notice an error message, never mind, let's go through.
(IMAGE THREE OF STEP TWO)
Next panel ask the outcoming server address, Insert the server of your Internet provider.
You will next be informed by a summary of data inserted, check and then click on END to complete the creation of the account.
Just remain in the Preferences panel to complete configuration.
(IMAGE FOUR of STEP TWO)
First panel, ACCOUNT INFORMATION, should report all info as inserted in the creation procedure, let's check and go to Advanced Panel.
(IMAGE FIVE of STEP TWO)
Insert 2000 on the PORT and check the two first cases in the upper part of this panel.
Proceed as indicated for all further accounts, which you may need to add.
GMAIL does not need anymore to be configured with MFP, as per
IMAGE SIX AND SEVEN of STEP TWO
You can now leave Preferences Panel and start to download your e-mails with Mail.app.
